![]() Some items are good, some others are dreadful and/or not authentic. The best I can say about El Patio is that the quality of the food is inconsistent. every year visiting friends and relatives. I know Argentine food very well because I grew up and lived in Argentina for 20+ years, and I spend at least 1 month in Argentina. ![]() I have been going to this restaurant for about 10 years and have tried most items on the menu. And I'll keep going back for more supplies and a "cafecito cortado with a medialuna." More In conclusion, it's a good place for a bite but maybe not for a fancy meal out. But their ensalada rusa (russian salad: diced potatoes & carrots with peas mixed with some mayonnaise) - which is one of Argentina's standard potato salads - is really good and goes well with most everything. Their french fries are not home made (maybe frozen?) and their salads are not put together but placed on the plate for you to mix which is us they almost always have hard tomatoes. Their beef milanesa was good but there is always the chance of it being a little tough, and their tortilla (potato omelette) is bleh. I've also had their milanesa de pollo a la napolitana (with ham, tomato sauce and cheese on top) and it was delicious. From the menu I've tried their parilla which is ok, not great but pretty tasty, and their two "small sides" are really regular size and perfect for 2 people. I had one and it was good, and any of these many options are great for takeout. They have a cake fridge where dulce de leche cakes abound, a freezer for argentine pasta and empanada dough supplies, and a chilled display for other sweet and savory choices which you can pick for your cafe break if you like: alfajores, small cake pastries, churros (straight, not curly), empanadas of various fillings and also "tartas" which are the Argentine version of british style cold pies or pasties, filled with a variety of veggies and some with ham. ![]() I like having their coffee with a "tostado" that are thin dough sandwiches, toasted (usually ham and/or cheese), or some of their delicious (but smallish) french style pastries called "facturas".you get to choose from their fresh display. The restaurant is family friendly and nicely put together clean bathrooms tv sets for any soccer games. once you step inside you just have to stop for a bite. I go to El Patio often as I stock up on Argentine products from their small and handy grocery corner (Sidra, Express and Traviata crackers, Opera cookies, Vacalin and San Ignacio dulce de leche, and the indispensable Fargo and La Saltena empanada dough disks!!!). When we came back 14 years later in 2021, it appeared that they’ve developed a second car park closer to the base of the waterfall while also adding lookouts and boardwalks on a trail that we were familiar with on that first visit. Such infrastructure definitely wasn’t around on our first visit in June 2007 ![]() Context of the new boardwalks that connecting the upper and lower views of Faxi when we came back here in August 2021. This waterfall flowed on the river Tungufljót, which was fed by glaciers (most likely Langjökull) and other streams from the highlands of the interior of Iceland.īy the way, this river was different from the one that Gullfoss flowed on as the Tungufljót ran parallel to the Hvítá.Īnyways, on our first visit in 2007, we were able to view this waterfall both from the car park (see directions below) as well as from the end of a short path descending to its base. It also had what looked like a fish ladder adjacent to it, which suggested that anglers or sports fishers could try catching salmon or trout in this river. ![]() In my mind it was like Gullfoss in that it was a wide river waterfall except it only possessed one tier instead of two. Se hai poco tempo puoi stare anche solo un quarto d'ora gardandotela dal percorso in alto in un paio di punti. The Faxi waterfall (also referred to as Fossin Faxi or Vatnsleysufoss in Icelandic) was a wide waterfall and kind of a smaller version of Gullfoss. You'll need all your best outdoorsy gear to fully appreciate the place.Ĭiao. I would highly recommend visiting this place, but please be aware that due to its altitude, it is COLD. The waterfall itself is stunning and has a viewing platform so that you can capture it in its full splendour. Apparently there are also a number of different access paths to descend. ![]() If you don't like that, or haven't got sensible boots, it's best not to visit. It was a little slippery and snowy in places, but hey. To access it, you have to go down some quite steep steps for about 100 metres. The waterfall itself is very remote (approximately 1.5 hour drive from Reykjavik), but is situated in some stunning barren countryside, and close to some of the Glaciers if you want to combine it with other sightseeing. It isn't as touristy as other places in Iceland, although there is still a cafe and shop next to the car-park. We visited in October 2019, so it was relatively free of tourists compared to other reviews (still a few coaches in the car park though). In my opinion, the trick is to accept it for what it is and focus on other things. Now, I can continue with my life and let that sort itself out in it's own time. When I'm going about my day, it rarely causes problems. I no longer feel like I have this huge fat lip, I don't feel like I talk funny and I don't generally notice it when I smile. The human body gets used to the less than ideal situations so we can focus our attention elsewhere and thrive in other aspects of our lives. But nerves take a long time to heal, so if you were to stay in that state for the entire time, you'd be constantly overwhelmed with discomfort. It can be frustrating because you're constantly aware of it, when you talk / eat / kiss, etc. Basically, at first it can consume all of your thoughts and energy. If you're reading this and you're in the early days of nerve bruising / damage, you might think that that's depressing. ![]() My chin is still numb but I feel as if the "edges" of numbness have receded a mm or so, which is promising! I think the biggest thing that happened is that I'm getting used to it. If I try to poke at my lip with a pencil, I won't feel anything unless I push down hard to put a lot of pressure on it. I'm not able to feel precise points just yet though. I would say this happened around the just before the 3 week mark (about 4 days ago). It doesn't sound like much, but it's a huge improvement. It's odd, because it doesn't feel like anything is actually touching my skin, but I know there is something there because of the tingles. At first, I couldn't feel anything if I touched it lightly with my finger. I'm definitely still numb in the same areas, but my lip is becoming much more sensitive to touch. Im 3 weeks and two days post surgery and things are getting better. Hi again, I just thought I would update everyone on my situation. Good luck to everyone, I'll keep you posted! It's all about perspective, do whatever you can to heal, be healthy and let time do the rest. Anyways, I hope I can maintain this positivity throughout, but I'm not too worried about that either. My new song is "Can't feel my face" by The Weeknd. I'm going back to school tomorrow after summer break, and I plan on not being self conscious but being very open about it to everyone - you just got to own it. And what is a year, really, in comparison to a lifetime? I hope to look back on this when I'm 35 and say, "Hey, remember that whole year in college when I couldn't feel my mouth and my smile was lopsided in all the pictures? Crazy times, man." and move on with my life. If in a year from now I can be 90% healed, I'll be happy. Not necessarily that it will be quick, easy or painless (both mentally and physically) but I'm trying to look at the bigger picture. I'm honestly quite positive about my recovery. I'll continue taking the ibuprofen and hopefully in a few days I'll be able to bear the chin / lip pain without medication. Anywho, I'm still quite swollen so I'm guessing that that plays a huge part in both my overall jaw pain and my nerve pain / numbness. I attempted to go off of them today and I wanted to rip my jaw off. Turns out that's because I've also been on strong opioids (percocet and dilaudid) for my teeth, which has been controlling the nerve pain. I thought I couldn't relate to the bad pain that others were having because mine has always just been very uncomfortable with a pain level of around 3-4. I kind of wish I hadn't stopped though, because people seem to have some success on them. I took it for three days and stopped today because I was reacting badly to them. I've been on ibuprofen every 6 hours and on the third day I was put on steroids. ![]() ![]() Basically, all the common symptoms it would seem. My front teeth also feel as if they have been crammed together. There is also a tightness and sometimes an itching feeling which is just downright annoying because I can't actually reach it. It's not completely numb, as I can feel pressure and it's constantly tingling. Well of course I was wrong, and whereas most of the anesthetic wore off within a few hours, the left side of my chin and lip stayed numb. I brushed it off, thinking that it wouldn't actually happen. The OS warned me that my left side was very close to the nerve, so I most likely would have some damage that would take up to 6 months to heal. I'm 22 and I got my 4 wisdom teeth removed 6 days ago. I'll explain where I am at right now, and I hope to keep everyone updated during my recovery. Hi everyone, I'm new here but these last few days, I've read nearly every post. There is NOTHING wrong with telling the kids that it is naptime and telling them that they need to lie in their beds for 1 hour, whether they go to sleep or not. Instead, mold your mommy timeout around the things in life that you enjoy, which make you feel good – not about being a mother, but about being a woman!Īnother hint, is that during the daytime – if you feel your blood pressure rising and you need an escape, do so at home. ![]() If you have a hobby or passion in life, don’t put it on hold when the kids are little – lest you feel resentful. You might enjoy going out with friends or prefer something simpler such as going to the gym. Regardless of how busy you are, you must pencil yourself into the family schedule. The perfect time out for you is anything that you enjoy. You are likely fidgety, annoyed, easily aggravated and a bit grumpy. Especially if you are burning the maternal candle at both ends. You might also overlook the fact that your children, also tire of YOU! Believe it or not, you might not be as exciting or fun to be around as you think. Even if you take your evening run every day, or choose to go grocery shopping by yourself (and why wouldn’t you) – these timeouts are great for everyone involved. So getting out as often as possible, is really a good thing. And the dependency strikes a vicious circle of dependency and co-dependency, in which the dependency becomes so bad that mom is afraid to leave, and dad feels uneasy about being alone with his children. Often, in stay at home parent households, kids become so reliant upon one parent, that they don’t think they can function without him or her around. Not only does a mommy timeout, enable dad to show off his parenting skills, but it also allows the children to function with the duality of trusting in both parents. When your stress levels are lower, you are more apt to be patient, less likely to yell or scream, and will have more physical and mental energy to help you not just ‘get through the day with your kids,’ but rather to enjoy your quality time with your children.Īnd experts suggest that mommy time outs are good for the marriage too, especially in homes where mom stays home with the kids. Plus, these little ‘somethings’ that can brighten your day, such as an afternoon manicure, or a weekly massage – also help you to recharge your inner batteries so you have more to give. ![]() There is nothing wrong with mom needing something or wanting something that is separate from her children. How can your children respect you as their mother, if you don’t take the time to respect yourself? Not only will you pass this expectation of helicopter parenting on to your children, who will then suffer from self-neglect when they become parents but you also fail to enable your children to learn that you too, are important. If you raise your children meeting their every need at all moments and constantly neglecting yourself the ramifications are fierce. Getting your own personal timeouts is critical to your sanity!Īdditionally, there comes a point in your child’s life when they too, need to realize that mom is a person and not the energizer bunny. After all, that is what makes you a grandma…not a mom!Įvery parenting expert in the world will tell you that mom needs a timeout too! In fact, it is common knowledge that if you aren’t able to take care of yourself properly – you will never be able to take care of your kids in the most compassionate manner possible. In fact, if you were able to constantly be a soldier to the needs of your brood without ever tiring or desiring something ‘adult,’ there would be something wrong with you. You aren’t a bad mom because you want to read People Magazine rather than If you give a Pig a Pancake (for the 55th time today). You aren’t a bad mom because you don’t feel like building yet another block tower. New flash! You ARE NORMAL! You aren’t a bad mother because you are severely tired of playing house, doctor, Barbie’s or Super Ninja turtles. ![]() In fact, any person who is surrounded by children for more than a few hours at a time- is responsible for feeding them, has to change them, answer their every whim, deal with arguments, tempers, and the constant emotional breakdowns of people under 4 feet tall – knows that there comes a time when mom needs a timeout too! Sadly, far too many mothers who are on the brink of losing it, and who no longer know how to talk to another adult without using that high pitched baby voice – don’t take enough time for themselves and feel guilty for even thinking about getting in their minivan and driving away. One of the worst preconceived notions about motherhood, is that it is always good. ![]() Continued abuse of our services will cause your IP address to be blocked indefinitely.
